Galleries
Some of the SMC dinner menus have been scanned and are shown here for, dare we say it, some historical flavour. The condition of some is not great, but they nonetheless provide a glimpse into those early years, with original illustrations on the front cover, amusing course titles, and of course numerous toasts. The menus begin here with the 4th Dinner, held in 1892.
There are also now photographs of early SMC Meets. Some information is provided, as well as some faces identified. Please feel free to tell us what you think, who you recognise, or any other data you would like to see. The earliest photograph is of the Easter Meet at Dalmally, held in 1891.
The latest gallery provides into some of the characters who were prominent in the earlier days of the SMC - Raeburn, Macphee, Naismith and others. Here you will find brief biographies and a portrait.
The intention is to gradually add some illustrations to the galleries - climbing, landscapes, portraits, whatever. One interesting future theme, for example, will be 'Mountain Art', where we can show photographs which cut across the genres. It would be preferable and appropriate if the photographs were taken in Scotland.
Contributions are welcome and will be acknowledged if used. Copyright of course is retained by the owner of the photograph. Send them, preferably in digital form, to smc@smc.org.uk - contact us before if you need more information
