Huts

Ling Hut, Glen Torridon

The hut was opened in 1955 in memory of the late William Norman Ling, the funds for equipment having been provided by a legacy bequeathed by him to the Club.

The hut is situated on the south side of Glen Torridon at G.R. NG 958 562. (See map below). There are restrictions on access to the Coulin Forest from mid August to the end of October (The MCofS website provides a Hill Phones section for more information on stalking). Ling is, like Lagangarbh, another traditional Highland house, though smaller, with no upstairs living space. It has just been re-furbished. There is a small loch outside reputedly stocked with fish, but surprisingly poaching is frowned upon by the estate!

Would you like to hear how a Gaelic speaker pronounces Liathach? Sound file (850Kb .wav) is from the Munros CD and includes pronunciations of the two principal summits; Spidean a'Choire Leith, and Mullach an Rathain.

Ling Hut offers you tranquillity in a glen - you supply the malt!

Ling Hut is perfectly placed for the Torridon hills

There is accommodation for 12 persons. Four places are reserved each weekend for Members and their guests. Cooking, lighting and heating are by propane gas.

Map taken from North-west Highlands Hillwalkers' Guide
