The Naismith Hut
This fine hut is the fifth and latest to be maintained by the SMC. It is located in Elphin, in the far-flung North-west of Scotland (NC 21607 11830). It has been named the Naismith Hut, after William Naismith, one of the founder members of the SMC. It was opened in 1999. The conversion of the building for use as a climbers' hut was made possible by funds bequeathed by Prof. P.B. Ayscough.
There is space for 10 climbers in two dormitories on Alpine platforms with mattresses. The hut is fully equipped with electricity and gas for cooking. The Naismith Hut has a fee of £8 per person per night.
Andrew Tibbs is the custodian for the Naismith. His contact details are given below.

As you can see from the map, there are many superb hills within easy reach of this hut; Ben Mor Coigach, Stac Pollaidh, Cul Beag & Cul Mor, Suilven, Quinag and many more. Suilven is prominent from the hut.

As there are several neighbouring private residences, users of the hut are reminded to behave responsibly at all times. The photo below shows part of the kitchen and gives an indication of the quality of finish and comfort in this hut. There is also a residents' lounge.

Applications to stay at the hut should be preferably by email to Andrew Tibbs the Honorary Custodian at:
