This is the home page of the Scottish Mountaineering Club, founded in 1889

Our main function is in serving our members, as a private club. We also utilise the wide experience of these members, and other mountaineers, in order to support an active publishing program covering the hills and mountains of Scotland – widely recognised as the best and most extensive series of guidebooks for walkers and climbers.

We operate five mountain huts, open to members of other clubs.

CIC Hut Storm Damage - Latest Situation: Thanks to the work carried out by Neil McGougan, John Orr and team, the roof on the CIC hut has been repaired and will be fully open from 16 January 2012. For photographs of the restoration, go to the CIC Hut page for a link.

(Is there anyone out there who denies global climate change?!)

We maintain a national database of climbs which are incorporated into our guidebooks.

We welcome input from you, especially information about climbs and other routes. If you have feedback about any of our guidebooks please go to Contacts. You may also email us directly.
