Scottish Hill Names

This fascinating book explains the origin and the meaning of the names of Scotland’s hills, as well as how to pronounce them. It also brings together many of the legends and stories behind particular hill names.
Written by Peter Drummond, it is a thoroughly researched, completely revised and expanded second edition which builds on the success of its predecessor. Many new names are detailed, including a significant increase in the coverage of Borders hill names and old forms of many hill names from 17th and 18th century maps brought to bear in explanations.

SMC Climbers' Guide Pouches
|
|
If you use our Climbers' Guidebooks, especially the new Scottish Winter Climbs guide, on the cliffs then you'll appreciate these. Designed to SMC Climbers’ Guide specifications, these pouches have been made by the leading manufacturer of similar pouches for other climbing guidebook sizes and carry the Rab equipment brand. A carry loop at either end enables the pouch to be clipped to the harness, or clipped to a sling and worn bandolier style slung around the shoulder. Tuck-in flaps together with an elastic retainer keep the guidebook secure and the pouch is zipped from the top to the bottom, to prevent snagging on the page marker ribbon. Constructed from double layer, medium weight proofed nylon, the pouch offers good protection in wet conditions, although it is not fully waterproof. Importantly, using the pouch will also protect your guide from serious damage when bundled inside your rucksack with other equipment. Karabiner and guidebook not included!
